THE STATE OF CLIMATE SERVICES 2021: WATER REPORT

by Dan Symonds

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that urgent action is needed to improve water management as it becomes increasingly impacted by climate change, growing populations and dwindling availability. According to a new multi-agency report led by the WMO, water management, monitoring, forecasting and early warning systems are fragmented and inadequate, while global climate finance efforts have proven insufficient. The State of Climate Services 2021: Water report highlights the need for urgent action to improve cooperative water management, embrace integrated water and climate policies, and scale up investment in water, which, the WMO says, underpins all international goals regarding sustainable development, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
